Life Story for Jeanne W. Galbreath

Jeanne W.  Galbreath
JEANNE LAVONNE (WINN) GALBREATH, 84 years of Street, MD, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017 in Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace, MD. Born on June 22, 1932 in Lynchburg, VA, she was a daughter of the late Charles Leland Winn, Sr. and Mary Ruth (Dutton) Winn.

Jeanne moved with her family to Harford County, MD at a very early age and grew up in Bel Air and Fallston. During her early years, she was active in the youth group at the First Presbyterian Church of Bel Air, Girl Scouts and the 4-H Club where she had been a camp leader and achieved 4-H All Star.

After graduating from Bel Air High School in 1949, Jeanne worked as a bookkeeper for several years with the Kunkle Service Company. She met her future husband, James W. Galbreath, through 4-H activities and on July 13, 1951, they were married in her church. In 1960, Jeanne began her 30 year career as a principal’s secretary with Harford County Public Schools until retirement in 1990. Early in retirement, she worked in the Office on Aging for approximately 4 years.

Throughout her married life, Jeanne was an active member of Highland Presbyterian Church in Street, MD, where she had served as an elder, on the board of deacons and trustees, directed the youth choir for six years as well as serving as a past president of the Women’s Association. An active member of the choir for 65 years, she and her husband loved to sing together and had sang in several local churches and community choruses with the most recent being the Just Having Fun Singers.

Jeanne cherished her monthly breakfasts with her high school classmates. Her interests included poetry writing, the art of stained glass and playing bridge. In addition, she published a book of the history of the Highland Community.

Her husband of 65 years, James W. Galbreath

Her son, John Charles Galbreath, Sr. of Street, MD

Her grandsons, John Charles Galbreath, Jr. and his wife, Tricia and James Leland Galbreath.

Her sisters-in-law, Brenda Winn of Souderton, PA and Ann Winn of Gainesville, VA

Many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers-Dr. Charles Leland Winn, Jr. and Daniel Martin Winn, Sr. and a nephew, Daniel Martin Winn, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Highland Presbyterian Church, 701 Highland Road, Street, MD 21154. A second visitation will be held from 11 to 11:30 a.m. followed immediately with the funeral service on Saturday. Her minister, Pastor Ray Meute, Jr., will officiate with interment in the adjoining church cemetery.
