Obituary for R. Mark Glackin
R. MARK GLACKIN, 69 of Wallops Island, VA, died on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 in his home. Born on February 21, 1950 in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late Jesse Raymond and Mary (Beard) Glackin. A 1968 graduate of Perry Hall High School, Mark enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving 2 years active and 2 years reserve, including a tour in the Philippine Islands. Growing up in a large family, Mark was the child who brought every lost, stray and injured animal home for recuperation including snakes, an alligator, a monkey and pigeons. His love of animals encouraged him to take classes and later become a licensed master taxidermist.
Mark had a natural talent for carpentry that he did for most of his life. He worked at various locations, was self-employed in addition to building the barn, his home and many outbuildings on his original VA property. While in VA, he briefly ran a country store that carried “most of everything” for the community shopping needs. Mark was instrumental in the establishment of the Northampton Pregnancy Center in the 1990’s serving the Accomack, VA area.
Mark was an avid outdoorsman, loved his farm and animals; he chose Wallops Island as his last home. He lived a practical life, living off the land appreciating the resources it provided. His family commented that he will be remembered as a devout Christian who led a spiritual life.
He is survived by:

Four sisters-
Nancy Foltz and her husband, Edward of Bel Air, MD
Betty Contino and her husband, Francis of Cockeysville, MD
Martha Glackin Bagley and her husband, Dennis of Tucson, AZ
Mary Lyons of Globe, Arizona
And sister-in-law, Kim Glackin, wife of Mark’s brother, Stephen who preceded Mark in death in 2012.
Four grandchildren-

Autumn Grace Merritt
Layla Faith Merritt
Charlotte Joy Merritt
Two step daughters-
Christa Ingoglia of FL and Carey Ingoglia of MD
Mark leaves many more family members, nieces, nephews and cousins behind. Mark’s legacy would include his numerous friends who were much like family as well both in Maryland and Virginia.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2019 in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1021 St. Mary’s Road, Pylesville, MD with military honors presented by the U.S. Naval Honor Guard. His brother-in-law, Fran Contino will offer thoughts and prayers. Lunch will be provided in the Parish Hall
