Obituary for Sarah D. Swahn

Sarah D. Swahn, age 90, affectionately known as “Sallee” died on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at the Citizens Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Havre de Grace, MD. She had been the wife of the late Dr. Frederick H. Swahn for 41 years at the time of his death on May 30, 1999.

Mrs. Swahn was born in Oxford, PA on April 9, 1929 a daughter of the late Irvine R. and Sarah (Crane) Dickey. Mrs. Swahn had received her education as a register nurse and for 41 years worked along with her husband in his practice, Deer Creek Veterinary Clinic in Street, MD. She enjoyed playing Bridge, loved to knit and was known to donate handcrafted prayer shawls to St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD. A longtime member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church, she had been active in church events until recent years. Traveling within the states as well as abroad was one of her favorite things to do, and she had quite a collection of Danish and Swedish Plates. Her family commented that she will be remembered for her kind heart and was a great help to family and friends

She is survived by three children:
Frederick H. Swahn, Jr. of Manassas, VA
Irvine D. Swahn of Street, MD
Sarah S. Friedman of Bel Air, MD

Eight grandchildren: Frederick Russell Swahn, Olivia Marie Swahn, Nathan Samuel Swahn, Frederick H. Swahn, III; Rachel Lynn Friedman, Ethan Frederick Swahn, Irvine D. Swahn, Jr. and Angie Kely Swahn.

She was preceded in death by her siblings; Mary Evans, Jane Dickey, Irvine R. Dickey and Samuel Tyler Dickey.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 14 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 4603 Rocks Road, Street, MD 21154 with the rector, Reverend Martie D.V. Johnson officiating.

Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA 17314
