Life Story for Barry Allen Shenk, Jr.

On Saturday, April 27th, 2019 Barry Allen Shenk, Jr. (60) unexpectedly left his family and friends to join His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His sudden passing, the result of a heart attack, has left his family with an unfillable void. A house without a foundation.

Barry was a man of God, who loved to study God’s word and implement it in his life. Second only to his relationship with God, was his love and devotion to his wife of 38 years, Karen Lynne Shenk (Zimmerman). They were married on September 13th, 1980, five years to the day of their first date at the Kennard-Dale High School Homecoming Dance. Barry and Karen were blessed with three children, Jacob Allen, Leah Elizabeth (married to Zachary Landis) and Jordan Andrew. Barry is survived by a brother, Todd, two sisters: Julie (married to Tim Rehman) and Jeanne (married to Jim Day).

Family was Barry’s absolute priority, not only in words, but through action. Within the past year, Barry became a “Pappy” to Carson Matthew Landis and Cale Edwin Shenk. Becoming a grandfather brought a new light to his life, and put a permanent smile on his face unlike we have ever seen before.

Born on February 6th, 1959, Barry was the son of Barry and Carol Shenk (Bacon) and a lifelong York County resident. Barry enjoyed coaching local youth sports long before having his children participate and closely followed York County athletics to this day, often attending games with his Dad, (Barry), Brother (Todd), and Son (Jordan). He was actively employed and spent his entire 40-year career with Northrop Grumman Corporation and Westinghouse Electronics Company prior to acquisition.

Beyond his love of family and friends, Barry loved baseball: playing it, teaching it, watching it, and talking about it. He established and ran the Fawn Grove Rotisserie Baseball League for over 30 years. His other passions included all types of music played at maximum volume, American history, laughing, documentaries, his VWs and a well-manicured lawn, in more recent years.

A celebration of Barry’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 1st, at his place of worship, Guinston Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 14130 Guinston Road, Airville, PA 17302 with visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. followed by a service. Co-officiating will be his pastor, Reverend Dr. Daniel R. Moore and Elder Geoff Denton.

In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate memorial contributions to his church at the above address or Messianic Vision Inc., 11153-10683 Island Point Rd., Charlotte, NC 28278.
