Obituary for Bertha M. Evans

Bertha Mae Evans, age 95 of York, PA and formerly of Delta, died Sunday, October 28th, at her home at Country Meadows of Leader Heights. She was the wife of the late Frederick M. Evans, and loving sister, aunt, and friend to so many.

Bertha was born in Delta, PA, on February 7, 1923 a daughter of the late Bunyan H. and Mary J. (Fulton) Wise, and the youngest of three sisters, and three brothers.

Bertha graduated from Millersville State Teachers College in 1944 with a BS Degree in Secondary Education / Library Science. After teaching Library Science and English at Downingtown High School for four years, she held a government Librarian position at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Maryland for 27 years before retiring. She has been an active member of Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church for 82 years and served as a deacon, and has also served as a volunteer for many organizations in the Delta area including the Daughters of the American Revolution and VFW Post 7130 Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her sister, Grace and many loving nieces and nephews.

All are invited to the graveside service at the Slate Ridge Cemetery on Thursday, November 1 at 10 a.m. Officiating will be her pastor, Reverend Kenneth Osborne. The cemetery is located at the corner of Griffith and Line Roads, Delta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church, 1630 Chestnut St., Cardiff, MD 21160 would be appreciated.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Country Meadows, Hospice and Community Care, and ComForCare for providing the special care she required during her illness.
