Obituary for Ruth E. Gross

Ruth E.  Gross
RUTH E. GROSS, 89, of Fawn Grove, PA, died on Friday, March 30, 2018 in Pleasant Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, York, PA. Married for 44 years, she was the beloved wife of the late James Edgar Gross who died in 1989. Born on March 6, 1929 in Brogueville, PA, she was a daughter of the late Joseph William and Elizabeth (Mitzel) Robinson.

A longtime member of Fawn United Methodist Church, Ruth began to work in Fawn Grove in 1952. She started at the former Devilbliss Brothers Grocery Store in the square of Fawn Grove followed by Rutter’s in 1961 where she served the community for 29 years. A love for hunting small and large game, Ruth also enjoyed playing bingo and horseshoe. An avid Steelers fan, she also followed baseball, particularly the Phillies and then the Pirates. Ruth will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by:
A daughter, Louise Poole of Fawn Grove, PA

Harold Robinson of Windsor, PA
Glenn Robinson of Wrightsville, PA

Two grandchildren
Donna Manahan of Fawn Grove, PA
Michelle Ellis, husband Ken of Forest Hill, MD

Four great-grandchildren
David Manahan, wife Angel
Amanda Thwaites, husband Michael
Rebecca Manahan
Chelsey Cochran, fiancé Doug

A great-great grandson, Nathan Thwaites as well as several nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by two sisters, six brothers and infant daughter, Linda

A viewing will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. where the service will follow immediately after at Fawn United Methodist Church, 67 S Market St, Fawn Grove, PA 17321. Reverend David W. Stough will officiate with internment at the adjoining cemetery. Funeral staff will be assisting with parking and handicap needs during the viewing and funeral service.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Fitzkee, Daniel Gross, Edward Gross, Russ Gross, Jason Lowe and Terrie Robinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fawn United Methodist Church at the above address.
