Life Story for Anna Fern Bertier

Anna Fern Bertier, 93, of Street, MD passed away peacefully on Monday, April 9, 2018 at her home. Born and raised in Lewisburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late James and Virginia (Harvey) Sampson and later moved to Baltimore where she met and married her husband, the late Raymond H. Bertier.

Anna, better known as Mom Mom to family and friends, spent her years as a nurturing mother, grandmother and diligent homemaker as well as a generous neighbor. At home, you could find her tending to her garden, baking a hot milk cake or busily folding laundry. Saturdays were saved for searching yard sales for bargains intended for anyone who may have mentioned a need of an item from baby clothes to iron skillets. Traveling miles and miles to attend the grandchildren’s sporting events, she was the ultimate fan. She will be remembered for her kindness, thoughtfulness, generosity and the ability to get a stain out of almost anything.

Anna is survived by three children and their spouses, Raymond W. & Elizabeth Bertier of Street, MD, James S. and Patricia Bertier of Key West, FL and Karen V. and Bryan Billings of Street, MD; grandchildren, Richard Bertier, Kerry & Gary Gizinski, Katey Bertier, Kelsey Billings and Brooks Billings; great-grandchildren, Adam Bertier, Shelby Gizinski, Brett Gizinski and Logan Bertier; brothers, James Sampson and Chester Sampson; sisters Carol Dean and Hettie Hancock; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters Dorthea Wolk, Pansy Meredith and Alice Jones; brothers, William Sampson, Earl Sampson, Albert Sampson and Delbert Sampson.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 13th from 9:30 – 11:00 followed immediately with a Celebration of Life Service at Emory United Methodist Church, 911 Cherry Hill Road, Street, MD. Officiating will be Pastor Stephen Smith and her former minister, Pastor Arthur Justice.

Her family would appreciate memorial contributions to Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, 1510 Deep Run Road, Whiteford, MD 21160 or Amedysis Hospice, 7106 Ridge Road, Ste: 140, Rosedale, MD 21237
