Condolences

Condolence From: Bill Beakes
Condolence: My deepest condolence for Neal's family and friends. Neal was a great influence in my growing up years. I couldn't count the hours that we played board games of Risk and The Battle of Gettysburg and Neal's own game of dice baseball. And definitely all the hours of playing our outside sports games. The main thing Neal game me was a passion for coaching children in various sports but mainly baseball. Neal had great integrity and talent. I will always be thankful that Neal was a big part of my youth.

Condolence: My brothers Bill and David, plus all the boys in the neighborhood learned so much from Neal through his sportsmanship and kindness. The Sunday Memorials building was next to our house on Main Street, and we all always looked forward to the times when he would be working there. There were endless games of touch football, basketball, and baseball, all of which he enjoyed (and played great!) He taught us all to play a baseball game with a rubber ball, which the pitcher could curve. Learning to hit that helped us when we played in our regular leagues. There were some automatic lights that came on to show the Memorials at night, and Neal pointed them so we could see to play basketball and baseball after dark. He was a wonderful role model for young boys growing up, and we have been very blessed to call him our friend. His church and missionary work seem exactly in keeping with the fine man that we knew in our youth. Our sincere condolences to his beloved family.

Condolence: What is the measure of worth in a man? Is it ruled by the inches of his date book plans? Is it some written figure on his bottom line? The count of children he's had in his time? Is it the length of his words with articulate pride? His picturesque taste in a suit and a tie? Is it the final result of his I Q test? The number of medals he wears on his chest? Is it the weight of the burdens his shoulders can bear? The looks of his house... where the world cuts his hair? How fast he can run.. the pounds he can lift? Is it based on the total of home runs he's hit? Is it the right set of letters in his college degrees? The size of his boat or the speed of his wheels? How he's remembered when his time is done? In the powerful eulogies when he's passed on? Though I can't see life through heaven's eyes, Or imagine what the Good Lord might say, Good Scout masters don't really die, They're up there still leading the way... How can you measure the worth of a man Who takes time to mentor the best that he can Who points the direction to "yearn to achieve" And molds the connections to a young man's dreams.. When he leads by example his message is heard, When he says on mu honor and means every word, He salutes at attention... he stands straight and tall, Under God, one nation and justice for all, From trustworthy, loyal, to reverent the twelve, He teaches no values lest he follows himself, Like a gardener endeavors to nurture the seeds, of to be prepared and of daily good deeds, When the Great Master calls him to his troop there on high, From the ashes to ashes of his Last campfire, He'll know in his heart that he helped lend a hand, To tie the knots from fine boys to good men.. Though I can't see life through heaven's eyes. Or imagine what the Good Lord might say, Good Scoutmasters don't really die, They're up there .... I believe Still leading the way... mmm For a brief time in life this fine man was my Scoutmaster, but for much longer, he was my coach, my mentor, my friend, and a shining example of how a man of God should walk on this earth. There is a debt of gratitude that some young men and I can never repay for his time effort and sponsorship in making some great memories for us all playing ball way back in the day... you are the champ sir... rest in peace my friend 'til we all can heed the call of "play ball" again on an ethereal diamond ...
