Life Story for Kenneth Robert Senkbeil

Kenneth Robert Senkbeil
KENNETH ROBERT SENKBEIL, 76 years of Fawn Grove, PA, died on Thursday, December 21, 2017 in York Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Kay Elaine (Crum) Senkbeil who preceded him in death on August 2, 1998.

Born on February 12, 1941 in Hartford, Connecticut, he was the only child born to Robert Torrey and Martha Evelyn (Skau) Senkbeil and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Ken had worked for over 40 years in the hardware and building materials industry as a salesman for various companies. He and his late wife had opened their home to care for over fifty foster children and gave a permanent home to seven, adopting them into their family. Ken loved training and breeding dogs and was known to share these skills with 4-H young people.

A photographer, he enjoyed taking pictures of nature and his children remarked that he would take them on long Sunday drives known to them as “Family Days” to teach them appreciation of the world they lived in. He followed the Baltimore Orioles for decades and did take time to cheer on the Ravens once the team originated in Baltimore. A man with a generous and loving heart, he was devoted to his grandchildren.

A longtime member of Faith Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Fawn Grove, he had served as an elder, trustee and on the board of sessions. Family and his faith were very important, and he enjoyed taking his loved ones to church to worship with him.

He is survived by:
Six children-
Jeff Senkbeil (Maxine) of La Luz, NM
R. Clare Compher (Shon) of Fawn Grove, PA
Allison Bryant (Michael) of Tampa, FL
Gregory Senkbeil of Stewartstown, PA
Michael Senkbeil of York, Pa
Jordan Senkbeil of Annville, PA

Eighteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Edward F. Senkbeil in April of 2016.

A celebration of life will be held at Faith Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 405 N. Market Street, Fawn Grove, PA on Saturday, the 13th beginning at 4 p.m. with military honors presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
