Life Story for Delmer T. Huff

Delmer T. Huff
DELMER THOMAS HUFF, 90 years, died on Friday, May 12, 2017 in his home. A lifelong resident of the family farm in Street, MD, he was born on December 20, 1926, a son of the late James Edward and Hanna Elizabeth (Snodgrass) Huff. Married on June 25, 1955, he was the loving husband of Jane (Ellicott) Huff who passed away November 2016.

A 1943 graduate of the former Dublin High School, Delmer worked on the family farm during his school years and continued his love of agriculture throughout his life. He was a dairy farmer until 1991, and afterwards continued harvesting crops on the farm, never actually retiring. He was a member of the Maryland State Dairymen/Maryland Cooperative Milk Producers for 50 years and had served on the Farm Bureau Board of Directors. He served as a leader in local 4-H activities, including judging poultry and teaching young 4-H’ers tractor operations. Delmer was active in the local elections process, beginning as a poll watcher in 1946 and finally as Chief Election Judge (Republican) from 1972 to 2008.

A dedicated member of Church of the Ascension in Street, MD, he served as a Vestryman, Sunday School teacher, superintendent and church treasurer along with his wife Jane. Delmer also served on the Board of Directors of the Holy Family House and was proud to be a member of the St. Andrews Society. Delmer loved to laugh, sing and rewrite famous poetry with his own words. He could see past the face value of things to what a person truly needed. He cared deeply about his family, including his church family.

Delmer is survived by two children:
John Michael Huff, husband of Jenifer of Street, MD
Susan Jane Huff of Woodbridge, VA

Three grandsons; Michael Emory, Patrick Andrew, and Samuel Ian Huff
