Life Story for Bernard J. Stierstorfer, Jr.

Bernard J.  Stierstorfer, Jr.
BERNARD J. STIERSTORFER, Jr., age 89 years, formerly of Forest Hill, MD and Fawn Grove, PA died on March 27, 2017 at the Willow Valley Retirement Communities in Lancaster, PA. His wife of 47 years, Ronna L. (Grim) Stierstorfer, preceded him in death on February 16, 2017.
Mr. Stierstorfer was born in Baltimore, MD on June 13, 1927. He was the son of the late Bernard and Catherine Kesserling Stierstorfer. He graduated from Edison Vocational High School in Baltimore and was drafted in 1945, serving in post-war Germany with the HQ Troop 13th Constabulary Squadron. Mr. Stierstorfer received training as a draftsman while in the army. After the war, he worked for Glenn L. Martin Co. and the MD State Roads Commission. Later, he was employed by the engineering firms of Beavin Co. and JMT Engineering. He helped design and oversee the construction of many highways, bridges and water treatment plants in the state of MD.
Mr. Stierstorfer had a great interest in aviation and built and flew radio controlled planes and gliders, both from kits and from scratch. He was a member of the Harford Co. Radio Control Modelers. In retirement, he became an avid golfer.
Mr. Stierstorfer was a former member of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Bel Air, MD and the Fawn United Methodist Church in Fawn Grove, PA. While in Lancaster, he attended the West Willow United Methodist Church in Willow Street, PA.
He is survived by three sons: Mark Stierstorfer and his wife, Janie of Stewartstown, PA
Eric Stierstorfer and his wife, Frannie of Baltimore, MD
Colin Stierstorfer of Sudlersville, MD
Six grandchildren: Katherine Boland, Lauren Stierstorfer, Elizabeth Stierstorfer, Daniel Stierstorfer, Amelia Stierstorfer and Bailey Stierstorfer.
One sister: Margaret Crosby and her husband, John of Finksburg, MD
His brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dave and Shari Grim of Street, MD and Charles and Dorothy Moreland of Chambersburg, PA
He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Stierstorfer.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 31 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fawn United Methodist Church, 67 S. Market Street, Fawn Grove, PA 17321.
The pastor, Reverend David W. Stough will officiate.
Interment with military honors will be in the adjoining cemetery.
The visitation will be held at the church from 1 – 2 p.m. immediately preceding the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Fawn U.M. Church at the above address.
