Services

Many people do not realize the importance of a funeral service for everyone who has experienced a loss. It is the first step toward closure and an important part of the grieving process. A funeral service is more than just a gathering of family and friends to say goodbye to a loved one, it is an opportunity to celebrate and remember a life well lived

The type of service you choose for yourself or a loved one is an important and very personal decision. At Harkins Funeral Home our dedicated and professional staff will explain the funeral process, show you the various options available and assist you with designing a service that truly reflects the spirit of one precious life. As each family has its own traditions and desires, and it is our goal to do whatever possible to make this difficult time as comforting and healing as it can be.

Graveside Service

A graveside service is held at the burial site. This service may be limited to the immediate family or open to all. After the service, there are options for a memorial service at the funeral home chapel, church or venue of choice.

Memorial Service

A memorial service is conducted without the body present and can vary in ceremony and procedures. It can be held at the funeral home or at a location of your choice. In order to create a memorial service that is as unique as your loved one, we encourage you to help personalize the service with memorabilia, photographs and other personal items.

Traditional Service

A traditional funeral service includes a viewing or visitation, a formal funeral service (at the funeral home, local church or location of your choice) and the necessary automotive equipment, such as a hearse to transport the body to the funeral site and cemetery. It is customary to purchase items such as a memorial register book, memorial folders and acknowledgement cards. Floral tributes are often displayed and you are encouraged to bring in photographs and other memorabilia to further personalize the service.

Cremation Options

For those people considering cremation as an alternative to traditional burial, many do not realize that they still have the option of a more traditional service. For those so inclined, we offer special service packages that include embalming, visitation, and church or chapel service to be followed by cremation. For our patrons selecting these services, we carry a line of wood caskets designed for cremation. These caskets are less expensive than standard caskets and still offer the family the comfort of a visitation and/or viewing.

We also arrange for direct cremations, which often do not include memorial services or visitation. This is frequently a choice of families requiring a more economical option for final expenses. Package services are also available with cremation to include a chapel memorial service and urn allowance, or a visitation. If a memorial service is scheduled, it often may take place at a later date, possibly - may be more convenient for the family.

Video Tribute

Video Tributes can be provided by your funeral director upon request and will be prepared from photographs provided of your loved one. Tribute presentations can consist of 50 to 75 photographs and will be accompanied by music to be played during your services at the funeral home or other service location. Options to have additional photographs are available. Following the services, a copy of the Video Tribute on a DVD will be yours to keep. Additional copies may be purchased at a small fee.

Custom Memory Books, Memorial Folders and Acknowledgement Cards

In our effort to make each service personal to your loved one, our staff will create a memory book unique to your loved one, custom memorial folders and acknowledgement cards with photographs of special vocations, locations, or hobbies of your loved one. Stock pictures are available for review as well as consideration of photographs taken by your family for cover pictures.

In addition to our stock inventory, inspirational poems, prayers and Bible verses may be provided by your family to make the memory folders more personal.
